Registering for Curve Social Rides & Events

We love running rides and events for our cycling community. All Curve social rides are free to attend and Curve flashpacking rides are not run commercially - we just divide up the accommodation costs and split it between the attendees. From 1 January 2024, Curve requires all attendees at Curve social rides to register online, and agree to our release and waiver. It basically means, you're fit and healthy to attend, you understand the road rules, you will behave responsibly, and you will come prepared with everything you need (water, food, route on device). Your registration will last until the end of the calendar year, 31 December. After that you will need to register again.

RELEASE AND WAIVER

By registering for Curve rides, or attending a Curve ride, you accept and agree:

  • that cycling can be a dangerous activity, especially in traffic, around pedestrians and other cyclists, and that you are at risk and may suffer or cause injury or death or property loss or damage;
  • that you must take care to avoid injury or damage to yourself and others;
  • fully assume all risks associated with your ride, known and unknown, and all responsibility for losses, costs and damages you incur as a result of your ride;
  • to waive, to the extent permitted by law, any claims, right or cause of action that you, personally, and each child in your care, and the heirs, executors and administrators of you and each child in your care, may have in contract and civil wrongs law for any personal injury, damage or loss arising from the ride;
  • you will be totally self-sufficient and provide your own water, food, tools, pump, spares, puncture repair kits, first-aid kit, navigation device (with course loaded and a knowledge of how to navigate) and whatever else you may need or want, as Curve rides are unsupported unless explicitly stated otherwise;
  • you will wear a bicycle helmet (compliant with the current required Australian Standard) securely fitted and fastened, in good condition and proper working order;
  • you will obey all road rules, including use of bike lights when necessary, when participating in Curve social rides and flashpacking events;
  • you agree that you have reviewed and assessed the information available about the ride (including the ride files) and that you are qualified, in good health, have sufficient fitness and skill, and are in proper physical and mental condition to participate in the ride;
  • you agree that your bike is suitable for the ride you are taking part in and that your bike and related components are in good repair;
  • you agree to provide your own insurance protection for your ride and acknowledge that Curve does not provide any insurance protection for accident, sickness or negligence of any individual participant. Any accident or injury caused by any participant’s actions will be the full responsibility of that participant;
  • you agree that you are responsible for any fees or costs incurred or arising from an accident either involving or caused by you. This includes, but is not limited to, fees from police, fire, ambulance or any similar service. If the situation arises that you are not capable of making the decision to call the emergency services, or fail to do so for any reason, you agree that a member of Curve or the public may call for you. In this situation, you still accept the costs and consequences of such action; and
  • this release from liability operates in contract law in favour of the following beneficiaries of the release: Curve Cycling International and all its officers, members, volunteers and employees and all sponsors of the ride or event. This release operates whether or not the damage is due to any act or neglect of any of the beneficiaries of the release.
RIDE GUIDELINES
  • Curve's goal in running social rides and flashpacking events is to get as many people off the couch as possible to explore a slightly more adventurous and fun side of cycling.
  • It doesn't matter how big or small you are, what brand of bike you ride, what you choose to wear, what your chromosomal composition is, etc - you are welcome, as long as you bring your sense of fun and adventure (which includes agreeing not to sue us, and releasing us from all liability).
  • While some of the Curve squad will be riding, there is no formal organisation. If you do come along to a Curve social ride or flashpacking event, you will need to be self-sufficient (bring everything you need) and remember that this is a fun social ride - not a race in any way, shape, or form. It will just be like you're out riding with your mates - nothing more.
  • Call out all hazards to other riders, do not lose sight of the rider behind you, provide assistance to fellow riders, and regroup at the top of each major climb.
  • Curve rides are inclusive. Please respect other riders and welcome them with a smile no matter what their experience, bike choice or skill level.
  • Cafe etiquette. Curve rides will often finish at a cafe, brewery or similar. Please store your bikes in designated locations, away from office doors and public thoroughfares, parked together as efficiently as possible. Be good ambassadors for cycling.
