Race, Ride, Lease FAQs

How do I get started?

Get in touch with us to discuss your bike needs and get started.

What is a subscription?

A Curve subscription is a lease arrangement for one of our immaculate brand new bikes. For a weekly fee you can take away a new Curve bike of your choice for 12 weeks, six months (26 weeks) or one year (52 weeks). Curve’s expert mechanics will take care of the bike, replacing parts as needed during your subscription. You’ll be riding a bike that always feels and looks almost new. At the end of your subscription, you can bring the bike back to Curve or buy it outright once we’ve given it a final overhaul.

What do I get with the subscription?

Brand New Bike. You get to take away a brand new Curve bike of your choice from our available stock and ride it like you own it for the duration of your subscription period.

All Inclusive Monthly Maintenance. Come to Curve every month for our expert mechanics to maintain your bike, replacing parts as needed. Your bike will leave Curve looking almost brand new. While at Curve enjoy a tea or coffee on us.

Discounts. Enjoy 10% off when you shop at Curve HQ during your subscription period.

Are pedals included in my subscription?

No. Pedals are a matter of personal preference. It's best to bring your own. We can sell pedals to you, or you can bring your own and we can install them for you. We keep a stock of standard road and off-road pedals, but if you want us to order something more exotic you may need to wait.

What fees are there?

Bond. You pay a $500 bond to secure your subscription bike. We will refund your bond when you return the bike at the end of your subscription period.

Weekly Subscription Fee. You pay a weekly subscription for access to the bike and for ongoing maintenance. Just bring your bike into Curve HQ once a month and our expert mechanics will clean and service your bike. We’ll replace all the parts that need replacing. You’ll roll out on a bike that almost looks brand new.

Maintenance Surcharge. We hope it doesn’t ever come to this, but we need to cover ourselves in case you continually destroy your subscription bike. We include the cost of wear and tear from normal usage in our subscription pricing. If your bike has wear and tear beyond what we would consider normal usage we will charge you a maintenance surcharge to cover the cost of additional parts and labour to keep your subscription bike running safely.

Late Payment Fee. If you are late with a payment we will charge you a $15 late fee. However, we understand that this can sometimes happen! So, if you call us and correct the missed payment within 48 hours of the due date we will usually waive the late fee. There is a three strikes policy though. If you are late on three payments, we will charge a $15 late fee on the third and any additional late payments.

What proof of identification and address to I need to provide?

You will need to show us photo identification: either an Australian driver license or current passport. You will also need to provide proof of your address. This can be your driver license if it shows your current address or you can use a bank statement or utilities bill. Why do we need this? Curve owns the subscription bike, so we need to know where it lives!

Can I subscribe if I'm not in Melbourne?

At this stage we're limiting our subscriptions to customers who are able to make use of the monthly servicing at Curve's workshop in Melbourne. We may extend the programme soon to offer a "bike only" subscription (which excludes regular servicing) for customers elsewhere in Australia. Get in touch if you're interested - we might just be able to make it work.

Can I keep the bike at the end of my subscription?

At the start of your subscription we will give you a buy-out price that will apply at the end of your subscription period. This includes the cost of any new consumables (chain, cassette, chain rings, bar tape, tyres, bottom bracket and headset) that are needed at that time, at our discretion. Just pay the buy-out price at the end of your subscription and the bike is yours forever!

What happens at the end of the subscription?

Simply return the bike to Curve HQ. We will check over the bike and return your bond, less the cost of any damage that is beyond normal wear and tear.

Why not just buy a bike?

Purchasing a new Curve bike is a big financial commitment. A subscription offers you the chance to try before you buy over an extended period with the security of a fixed price offer at the end.

A Curve subscription plan offers good value. Maintaining a high-end bike is expensive. Bike shop labour for premium bike servicing in Melbourne is charged out at more than $120 per hour. Then there’s the cost of parts and accessories. You don’t have to worry about that with a Curve subscription. Monthly servicing and all the parts you need to keep the bike in near new condition are included. We have built in heavily discounted rates for labour and parts to keep the subscription price affordable.

A subscription offers more flexibility than purchasing a bike. Who knows when your circumstances might change? A subscription gives you the flexibility to exit easily, if needed. Just return the bike to Curve at the end of your subscription period and we’ll call it quits. However, if you fall in love with your ride, you have the option to purchase it outright at a price we give you up front.

Can I test ride the bike first?

Of course! We have a wide range of demo bikes available for test riding at our Curve showroom in Melbourne.

What if the bike gets damaged or stolen?

If your subscription bike gets damaged or stolen, get in contact with us as soon as possible to let us know. We will discuss the best way to get you rolling again as soon as possible. If you damage or lose parts, Curve will charge you for the replacement of those items.

If the bike is stolen or damaged in a way that is not covered by Curve’s warranty policy, some or all of your security bond will not be refunded. The amount of the bond kept by Curve will cover part or all of the cost of repair or replacement.

What if I change my mind?

After test riding a bike and discussing your cycling needs and sizing with Curve’s expert staff, we will be very surprised if you don’t fall in love with your subscription bike. If you have any issues with sizing, please let us know and we will do our best to help, but please make every effort to work with us to get sizing right before commencing your subscription.

You can exchange your bike for another size within the first seven days of your subscription but you will need to return your subscription bike in an as-new condition, otherwise we will need to charge you a restocking fee of at most $500. Unfortunately, Curve cannot sell used bikes as new and so we will need your help to cover loss of sales value.

What if I want to cancel my subscription?

If you want to cancel your subscription before your it ends you can do so by giving us four weeks of notice. A cancellation fee equal to four weeks of subscription fees will apply.

Your subscription has a fixed term but sometimes life circumstances change. We understand that. If you find yourself in a situation of unexpected financial hardship or need to cancel your subscription for other reasons, please get in touch with us and we will do our best to help.
